The FosterWe Formula: What I Discovered by Living Our Culture

By Alejandra Chavez (Graphic Designer, FosterWe)

When asked what we do at FosterWe, we could answer from our individual points of view that we are consultants, coaches, designers, illustrators, or programmers… but after eleven months of experiencing this work from the inside, I am left with a collective vision. We are translators of ideas into experiences that people can truly feel and inhabit in order to create sustainable change.

Over five years, FosterWe has perfected a formula that isn’t found in books, but rather in real connection. As the newest member of the creative team, I’ve seen firsthand that people don’t just work here, they discover a different way of relating to work. A way to integrate whole whole self into your professional life.

From my perspective, I can say that having a workflow explained to you is very different from actually living it in practice. Especially since many of us have previously experienced fairly hostile work environments, where creativity lacks the space to germinate and growth. Where complexity and rushed delivery breed frustration and exhaustion. These are scenarios where real opportunities for expansion do not exist, where concepts like “building community” are a utopia, and where one’s own voice is often ignored.

The Art of Slowing Down (and Why It Works)

In a world that demands we run relentlessly, FosterWe dares to say something that sounds radical to many: “Slow down.” I have learned that sustainable change does not come from speed, but from alignment. Before I ever pick up a pencil to draw, or before the consultants launch a strategy, we make sure we are all looking in the same direction. At first, it might seem strange, but today I understand that lowering our speed is sometimes the only way to go much farther later on.

I felt this philosophy of “pausing to integrate” firsthand from day one. Something that deeply surprised me when I joined was my onboarding: for three months, my teammates dedicated themselves to training me in different areas of interest. They took real time to meet with me and propose exercises based on the skills I was acquiring. It was a perfect balance: while they gave me new tools, they leveraged my current strengths to assign me tasks where I could truly shine.

I deeply value that necessary pause and the patience they had with me. In an environment where often only exaggerated production matters, finding a space that invests a full quarter in your complete development is, quite simply, transformative. Fortunately, and perhaps this is what I enjoy the most, this learning period did not end with the welcome; it remains a part of our daily routine.

The Workshop: Where the Complex Becomes Digestible

My work during this time has been iterative and dynamic. We don’t limit ourselves to a single task; we are the visual architects of experiences ranging from creating presentations, brand identities, and websites, to designing resources that strengthen every single client intervention.

Our challenge is to help digest information so that it becomes visible, tangible, and, above all, inspiring. We take dense texts and transform them into visual bridges and diagrams that the brain can easily embrace.

A Living, Breathing Machine

The most valuable part of this is that nothing we do is done just to “check a box.” An idea might be born from an individual sketch, but it is refined through everyone’s objective feedback until it shines with collective power and achieves a hallmark full of intention. Therefore, understanding that we do not work in isolationis a fundamental value of our practice.

This synchronicity begins with our daily pulse, the space where we tune in every morning to review progress and ensure no one is left behind. But we don’t just limit ourselves to the immediate task; we also need a 360° view, so we sit down weekly with leadership to see the complete project roadmap. This allows us to understand the “why” behind every single stroke we make.

Finally, this machine is completed by a genuine synergy with the delivery team. They are the ones who bring the human need and the client’s voice, giving us the necessary context so that we, from a design perspective, can give shape, color, and a deep meaning to every solution.

Together, We Go Further

Thanks to this, I am able to see how our culture has become not just our way of living together, but a living prototype of the transformation we facilitate; because, certainly, we wouldn’t dare design environments for others that we are unable to inhabit ourselves at home first. That is why I dare to say that FosterWe is proof that when a company dares to slow down, integrate, and listen, business doesn’t stop; on the contrary, it expands. We become the mirror of the transformation our clients are looking for.

After this time of evolution, my conclusion is that magic happens when we understand that illustration, strategy, and administration speak the same language when the goal is to empower human talent. We are not a factory of mass-produced solutions; we are a community that firmly believes that in order to transform the culture of others, we must first cultivate our own.

At FosterWe, expansion happens when we meet one another, in the respect for each other’s pace, and in the conviction that everyone’s voice matters. Because, although you can walk alone, you go much further together. We are artisans and strategists working with an open heart, convinced that when talent feels at home, the shared path is the only way to create without fear and grow without limits.
